ResumoResumo: O artigo sintetiza alguns grandes momentos da história da economiana Amazônia como: ciclo das drogas do sertão; ciclo da borracha; ciclo dapecuária e da soja. Entre esses há outros momentos marcantes como períodosde mineração e a exploração da madeira. Ultimamente ganha destaque abiogenética.O conteúdo está inserido na problemática ambiental. Enfatiza como os diferentesmomentos da economia não levaram em conta nem a flora e a fauna, nem omilenar habitante da Amazônia: as comunidades autóctones. Levanta a questãoda identidade da Amazônia no contexto natural e humano do planeta.Palavras-chave: Civilização, Amazônia, ambiente, comunidades nativas, cicloseconômicos.Abstract: The article offers a synthesis of some important stages of the historyof economy in the Amazon region such as narcotics, rubber, cattle raising, andsoy bean. Among them are to be mentioned intermittent stages of mining andextracton of lumber from forest-trees. Recently attention is drawn to biogenetics.The content is envisaged in the context of the environmental problem, since thevarious stages of economy did not take into account neither flora, fauna, nor theindigenous habitants who lived in autochtonous comunities in the Amazon regionduring thousands of years. The question being raised concerns the identity ofthis geographical region as the natural environment of the people living on thisside of the planet.
