This article aimed to analyze the discourse on old age based on four objects: (I) series of special reports on aging on Jornal Nacional (TV Globo, 2017); (II) report shown on the program Mais Você (TV Globo, 2016); (III) documentary series Muitos anos de vida (Alberto Renault, GNT, 2016) and (IV) documentary Envelhescência (Gabriel Martinez, 2015). Based on the premise of Guita Grin Debert that old age is a social construction and based on the studies on population aging and demographic transition in Brazil, we found that the discourse on aging in different media products is strongly linked to the attributes of youth, activity and the obligation of happiness, as a mark of contemporaneity.
