ResumoespanolEste articulo analiza los primeros anos del Instituto de Educacion Hotelera creado en la administracion del Presidente Carlos Ibanez del Campo (1927-1931). El objetivo es comprender la importancia que se le asigno al turismo como actividad economica y nuevo sector productivo del pais, junto a la necesidad de profesionalizar la oferta de servicios. Para ello se hara uso de diferentes discursos de las autoridades del periodo, decretos que dieron forma al Instituto, asi como de una lectura sistematica del organo de difusion del Departamento de Turismo del Ministerio de Fomento, denominado Boletin de Informaciones EnglishThe Institute of Hotel Training of Chile. A Pioneering Experience of Teaching in the Hospitality Field. This article analyzes the first years of the Institute of Hotel Training created in the administration of President Carlos Ibanez del Campo (1927-1931). The objective is to understand the importance that was assigned to tourism as an economic activity and new productive sector of the country, together with the need to professionalize the service offer. For this we will use different speeches of the authorities of the period, decrees that shaped the Institute, as well as a systematic reading of the organ of diffusion of the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Development, titled Bulletin of Information
