Resumo

This article presents an experience report, carried out in a third year high school class of a state school in the city of Tupandi / RS, whose objective was to provide an understanding of the mathematical relationships that are present in the prisms, through mathematical modeling.In this way, the students used their creativity to construct physical models, analyzed them to define the theoretical models present in the prisms.The methodology adopted is of a qualitative nature, carrying out a case study to verify the developed learning, for which the students' formal reports, photographic records and observation in the classroom were used.The accomplished experiment reached the established objective, since the students presented signs of the understanding of the relations through the mathematical modeling, developing an active learning, in which they manipulated the constructed model, analyzed and determined the mathematical relations involved in the study of the prisms.
