ResumoResearch Article| October 01 2017 The Butt Remix: Beauty, Pop Culture, Hip Hop, and the Commodification of the Black Booty Elena Romero Elena Romero Elena Romero, a former editor at Women’s Wear Daily and the defunct Daily News Record, is an adjunct assistant professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and at The City College of New York Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education. She is the author of Free Stylin’: How Hip Hop Changed the Fashion Industry. She presented excerpts from this essay as an invited speaker at New York University’s “Black Portraiture{s} II: Imaging the Black Body and Re-Staging Histories” Conference in Florence, Italy.
