Resumo

To the Editor: We read with great interest the recent correspondence published in Neurosurgery regarding the exquisitely rare apparition of a truly pristine Wolf Sign, formed from the bowed leaflets of a cavum septum pellucidum, which was also remarkably reminiscent of the quintessential pendant favored by Metallica frontman, Mr James Hetfield.1 As Dr Liby aptly noted in his meditation, this occurrence illustrated how rare intersections of images from the popular culture with neurosurgical imaging findings may enrich our collective educations in ever-surprising ways. Mere days later, while reviewing the pathology from an extraordinarily rare giant infantile mature teratoma of the skull base, we spotted an old friend, luxuriating amidst the reactive gliosis—Buffalo Man, iconographic mascot of 90s blues-jazz pioneers Jamiroquai (Figure)! It remains to be seen whether we are less likely to encounter another similar tumor in our careers, or a meaningful revitalization of Jay Kay's creative career; nevertheless, we were delighted to encounter such a perfect appearing Buffalo Man sign, and to be able to ratify our colleagues’ compelling observation regarding the myriad benefits of listening to a wide swath of popular music.2-4Figure.: A, Hematoxylin and eosin preparation of tissue from sections through a neonatal mature teratoma of the skull base, demonstrating glandular and follicular formations against a background of reactive gliosis and gliofibrillary changes.
