Resumo

The aim of this article is to analyze the work Northern Ashes, by Milton Hatoum, from the perspective of physical and psychological displacement.In this novel, in which the issue of exile is shown in an extreme way, all the characters are displaced and unhappy due to familiar, traditional, financial, sexual, artistic, professional conditions, among others.The discussion will focus on the character Raimundo, the protagonist, and his relationship with himself and those around him.In addition, the plot provides material for discussing the function of Art and the types of narrators that exist, which in the case of Northern Ashes there are three narrators who report events.Another important issue is the relationship between father and son, overwhelming in this novel.For such discussions, will be used the theoretical assumptions of
