Resumo

This article discusses a project by the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), located in Chino, California, to add large‐scale solar energy production to its portfolio of renewable energy generation in the form of 3.5 MW of clean solar power installed at four of IEUA's treatment plants. The power is generated by SunPower® solar panels and trackers. The combined systems are expected to help the IEUA fulfill its goal to power 100% of its operations with renewable energy resources by 2010. It is also expected to save the IEUA $500,000 per year in electricity costs. The article includes three steps for implementing a solar power program at other water utilities.
