Resolved the old quarrel about sports being or not an art form, the research about the aesthetics of sport has focused on understanding sports as an aesthetic object.In this context, the images produced in and about sports ceased to claim the status of artworks and started to play a key role in the sporting visual culture so as in sports aesthetics.It should be noted, however, that images from the universe of photography, painting and sculpture continue to prevail in studies that include approaches about sporting images.Despite the mention of sport philately appears in several works, there is still a lack of depth taking the subject from the aesthetic perspective.Hence the relevance of this study that is the first part of a more extensive research.The study was developed in the context of the Portuguese philatelic production, which main purpose was to contribute to a better understanding of sporting visual culture and sports aesthetics.Seven stamps were analyzed through a hermeneutic approach.Body, movement, materials, clothing and accessories were the elements from sports' universe that best helped to explain the aesthetic value of stamps.
