Chemical data concerning 30 rock analysís from the granitic Socorro Complex (State of São Paulo and Minas Gerais) are presented together with a prelimínary interpretation. The data are compatible with the main lithochemical characteristics of the I-type granits and Magnetite-type granites. However, the genetic interpretation based on geological, petrographic and chemical features shows that the Socorro Complex magma ís the result of a mantle-crust interaction resulting in a hybrid character, intermediate between true crustal and pure mantle derived granites. In this way the I-type granít must be no longer considered as a simple product of fusion of deep seated orthogneísses as advocated by several authors.
