ResumoThe 2009 meeting of the editorial board of The American Journal of Cardiology (AJC) was held on March 29, 2009, in Orlando, Florida, at the time of the Annual Scientific Sessions of the American College of Cardiology. The meetings purpose was to review the AJC's publication results for 2008, to recognize particularly those AJC board members who reviewed the most manuscripts in 2008, and to receive criticisms and suggestions from board members on how to improve the journal. The meeting went as follows. 1Introduction of new editorial board members: these are listed in Table 1. Table 1New board members in 2008 Jamil Aboulhosn Bruce T. The major reason the acceptance rate is in the midtwenties is because most of the manuscripts that are published are shortened considerably, and that allows space for more reports. Thus, of the total of 2,912 submitted in 2008, 709 (24%) were accepted. 6Numbers of manuscripts received and accepted from countries other than the United States in 2008: these are listed in Table 5. Of the 3,642 editorial pages published in 2008, 97% were used for reports and/or readers' comments. Of the 647 reports published, 591 (91%) involved multiple patients, and 11 involved studies of single patients. Three reviews, 3 interviews, and 9 Editor's Roundtables were published in 2008. Apparently, these roundtables are quite popular. The topics of the 647 reports are also listed in Table 6. Reports having to do with coronary artery disease of course led the list (at 39%), and those dealing with preventive cardiology, heart failure, and miscellaneous subjects each represented 11% of the reports. Although there are apparently 65 million Americans with systemic hypertension, only 8 reports were published on this topic in the AJC in 2008. These include the 26 full years of the present editorship. The total pages for reports and readers' comments in 2008 numbered 3,522, a 2% reduction from the previous year.
