Resumo

Signed languages were particularly prominent among the 2018 Academy Awards: alongside Best Picture winner The Shape of Water was the spectacular Best Short Film winner, The Silent Child. Written by and starring Rachel Shenton as social worker Joanne, the 20-min drama tells the story of Libby (Maisie Sly), a 4-year-old girl who is born deaf, whose world is without a word until she is taught British Sign Language (BSL) by Joanne. As Libby grows in confidence and proficiency in signing, her personality begins to shine, and it becomes clear that she is not silent at all, but is chatty, cheeky, and insightful.
