ResumoThe present work seeks to analyze the action of environmental law in the management of the transboundary river basins, focusing on the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).The work uses United Nations' data about the area, and literature review, focusing on national and international doctrine and legislation concerning to environmental protection.After that, the amazonic river basin is analyzed under geographical, sociological and legal views to justify the necessity of a treaty to manage Tomás Soares da Silva Barros * the area.To that effect are handled the ACTO's historic-normative development, its goals and structure.Finally, the subject of the current development of these basins protection by the brazilian laws and its integration with the ACTO, confirming the importance of the National Policy on Water Resources and the National Agency of Waters into the realization of the treaty goals.
