ResumoObjective:To analyze, with reference to the legal bases, the nursing dimensioning process for the care of the patients hospitalized in the emergency room of a school hospital.Method: This is an epidemiological cross-sectional study using secondary data, performed in a hospital emergency room located in a mediumsized city in the State of Minas Gerais -Brazil.Results: It was verified that the service has a total of 45 nursing technicians and 19 nurses, not meeting the legal bases that point to 27 nurses and 53 technicians and nursing assistants.The majority of patients treated in the sector have a minimum care classification and the number of patients without classification is also highlighted.Conclusion: It was possible to verify that there is a deficiency in the Nursing Personnel Sizing, evidencing the importance of the training of the managers for the same and putting at risk the safety of the patients.
