Resumo

The aim of this study was to better understand how Physical Education college professors interact with the pedagogical methods for teaching sports disciplines. For such a phenomenological research with the following objectives was conducted: verify the level of knowledge on a selection of pedagogical methods for teaching sports disciplines; and to identify the reasons for their choice among them. Seventeen college professors, working on 9 different universities (8 in Sao Paulo area and 1 in Guaruja) with sports related disciplines were interviewed. The main finding is that the Traditional Technicist Method is still the most common method employed. The reason for such choice is based on their student background, which consisted mostly of the learning of this method. It is important to notice that other methods are emerging and also being employed, such as Situational Pedagogy, Critical Pedagogy, Games Pedagogy, Modified Games Pedagogy, Pendulum Model (Claude Bayer) and Critical and Emancipationq’s Pedagogy. However, such methods are still rarely employed and not familiar to most professors in the universities analyzed.
