We used laparoscopy in a selected patient to unroof a large complex renal cyst. The technique could optimally be used for simple cysts. The procedure was minimally traumatic, morbidity was negligible and the patient was discharged from the hospital the morning after the operation. After a 6-month followup, we believe that this laparoscopic technique is a significant advance in urological surgical management and may be better indicated for symptomatic, recurrent, simple renal cysts. © 1992 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByDUNN M, PORTIS A, NAUGHTON C, SHALHAV A, MCDOUGALL E and CLAYMAN R (2018) LAPAROSCOPIC CYST MARSUPIALIZATION IN PATIENTS WITH AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASEJournal of Urology, VOL. 165, NO. 6 Part 1, (1888-1892), Online publication date: 1-Jun-2001.LIFSON B, TEICHMAN J and HULBERT J (2018) ROLE AND LONG-TERM RESULTS OF LAPAROSCOPIC DECORTICATION IN SOLITARY CYSTIC AND AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASEJournal of Urology, VOL. 159, NO. 3, (702-706), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1998.Cadeddu J, Regan F, Kavoussi L and Moore R (2018) THE ROLE OF COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY IN THE EVALUATION OF COMPLICATIONS AFTER LAPAROSCOPIC UROLOGICAL SURGERYJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 4, (1349-1352), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1997.Hoenig D, McDougall E, Shalhav A, Elbahnasy A and Clayman R (2018) LAPAROSCOPIC ABLATION OF PERIPELVIC RENAL CYSTSJournal of Urology, VOL. 158, NO. 4, (1345-1348), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1997.Winfield H, Donovan J, Lund G, Kreder K, Stanley K, Brown B, Loening S and Clayman R (2018) Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy: Initial Experience and Comparison to the Open Surgical ApproachJournal of Urology, VOL. 153, NO. 5, (1409-1414), Online publication date: 1-May-1995.Gill I, Clayman R and McDougall E (2018) Advances in Urological LaparoscopyJournal of Urology, VOL. 154, NO. 4, (1275-1294), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1995.Munch L, Gill I and McRoberts J (2018) Laparoscopic Retroperitoneal Renal CystectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 1, (135-138), Online publication date: 1-Jan-1994.Parra R, Hagood P, Boullier J, Cummings J and Mehan D (2018) Complications of Laparoscopic Urological Surgery: Experience at St. Louis UniversityJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 3, (681-684), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1994.
