Resumo

Advances in microelectronics permit programmable devices to be used where converters act as high-speed power controllers. However, their use is restricted by the processing speed of commercial microprocessors. In the paper definitions are given of the requirements to be met by programmable high-speed controllers on the basis of previous, analog solutions. These are: an adequate processing speed, easy programming by the user, simple program sequence control and low-cost, reliable hardware. Special mention is made of the structure of the program language - the so-called function block language. The control engineer is familiar with function blocks as a means of structuring his control problems. The processing unit for the function block language is described. Also mentioned are the implemented function blocks and processing times. The paper goes on to explain the application of the programmable high-speed controller with reference to a cycloconverter-fed synchronous motor. Mention is made of the basic circuit diagram, the controller structure, the function blocks required and the interrupt-controlled program sequence.
