Resumo

Tests and measurements have fallen a good deal short of making the contributions to the counseling process that were expected of them. The writer takes the position that inadequacies of both the tests and counselors are responsible and that major changes are needed if tests are to continue to have a place in the counseling process. Suggestions for improvement include: (a) introduction of assessment specialists in counseling programs, (b) development of tests to aid client exploration and to indicate methods for overcoming handicaps and realizing potentialities, and (c) expansion of techniques such as workbooks and computer programs to maximize the value of present tests.
