This is the first reported infection of a human by H7N4 avian influenza A virus in the world, and the case has received extensive attention worldwide. However, this is not the first time that the H7N4 virus has appeared in China, as early as 1993, H7N4 virus was isolated from a duck in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province (Table 1), indicating that H7N4 virus has existed in China since 1993 and might be a potential threat to China.
