Resumo

This article focuses on the endoscopic diagnosis and management of patients with Mallory-Weiss tears. Specific emphasis is placed on the applicability of newer endoscopic hemostasis techniques. Also, a high-risk subset of patients with Mallory-Weiss syndrome—those with underlying portal hypertension—are described and appropriate treatment is discussed.
