In the chronological period of the Portuguese Monarchy, the present work aimed to investigate, through the decomposition of the magisterium of a bishop, the importance of ecclesiastical leaderships as socio-religious elites.In other words, by demarcating Mendes Bello's ecclesiastical path to the top of the Catholic hierarchy of the kingdom, we sought to understand the dynamics and determinant factors in the process of social mobility of Catholic hierarchies in Portugal, contributing to their affirmation as a corporate elite.
