Resumo

In Iphigenia in Tauris’ first messenger-speech (vv. 236-339), a shepherd narrates a battle between the Taurians shepherds and the Greek heroes Orestes and Pilades. In this context this article aims to demonstrate that Euripides is inspired by Sophocles’ Ajax and by the battle scenes of the Iliad. However, unlike in Ajax and in the Iliad, Euripides’ intention is not tragic but comic, thus showing the peculiar situation of the hero Orestes.
