E-mail: fraga@ufrrj.br The knowledge of the mycobiota present in psitacids is critical, since birds can act in the epidemiological chain of important zoonoses. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of Aspergillus spp. in the oral mucosa and oropharynx psitacids in quarantine of the birds seized at CETAS-IBAMA. Isolations were carried out at the beginning of quarantine after clinical evaluation and at the end of the quarantine after the rehabilitation of birds. During the four month evaluation period were monitored nine different psitacids (Arara Caninde, Chaua, Maritaca, Maitaca Suia, Papagaio do Mangue, Papagaio Verdadeiro, Periquito Estrela, Periquito Verde e Tuim) and were isolated from four species of Aspegillus at the beginning of the quarantine. Aspergillus flavus was the most frequent followed by A. niger. Aspergillus fumigatus and A. ochraceus were isolated once during the months of analysis. The quarantine period presented with positive outcome in the rehabilitation of birds, showing a satisfactory food supplement and the absence of Aspergillus at the end of observation.
