We agree that organizations have an ethical obligation of transparency to share sufficient information with physicians to help them decide about participation in a STEGH. We currently lack rigorous, objective metrics to assess such programs but hope that this changes over time. For example, a tool to evaluate short-term global health programs was developed—with input from the local community—to assess such variables as costs, the effect on health, and sustainability (1).
