Mcgee formerly Lecturer in Geography at the University of Malaya, is now Lecturer in Urban Geography at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He has worked on Malay migration to the cities in the Federation of Malaysia. He would like to thank the Center for South­East Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, for a grant which enabled him to spend six months there, during which time the major work for this paper was carried out.Search for more papers by this author T.
