Resumo

In contrast to the mainly allegorical interpretation present in ancient commentators, modern approaches to the Parable of the Good Samaritan prefer a directly ethical reading. In this article, I offer an interpretation of the Parable, which highlights new perspectives about relationship between ethics and religion, touching on important philosophical issues. Within this frame, I focus on two twentieth-century Christocentric readings of this Parable –those of Saint John Paul II and Blessed Álvaro del Portillo–, which allow for an original integration of the ethical and religious points of view, in dialogue with our time’s concerns and challenges.
