ResumoThe objective of this paper was to determine the physico-chemical and biological parameters of the water of the Santa Maria da Vitória-ES River and the Vitória bay-ES from May to November 2016 and March to June 2017, and six collection points were monitored. The values of concentration of Cd and Pb metals are below the limits of quantification the technique. For the Cr, Ni, Fe, Zn and Mn metals are within the limits established by CONAMA and the arsenic metal was above the established value (greater than 0.0014 mg L -1 ) for fishing regions. The Allium Cepa root growth toxicity analysis was adapted for brackish water analysis and showed good results, and no sample evaluated showed significant toxicity.Regarding the mitotic index, no significant differences were observed between the positive control and the other treatments, however, the study showed a drop in the mitotic index in the proximity of the sea, it is a strong indication of pollution of the body of water in the analyzed region.
