Resumo

Technological externalities are considered a critical driver of both region agglomeration and superior performance for local firms, especially in R &D intensive industries. A variety of researchers have found evidence for a disproportionate presence of knowledge spillovers in regions. Yet, most early research of this phenomenon did not address directly the mechanisms supporting the spillovers. But uncovering the micro-foundations of regional spillover processes is of critical importance. Without understanding these mechanisms it becomes difficult to derive policy implications to leverage such phenomena. This symposium aims to advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms, the micro- foundations for the establishment of spillovers, especially those that arise in a geographical context.Social Capital Accessibility: Generative Mechanisms and Redundancy of Inter-firm Knowledge AccessPresenter: Rafael A.
