Nakagin Capsule Tower: la arquitectura convertida en signo

La arquitectura construye los lugares donde discurre la vida del hombre; tambien, iconos memorables. Algunos edificios nos llegan del pasado con una evidente carga significativa; a otros el significado se lo asignamos nosotros. ?Que pasa cuando al edificio se le atribuye un significado desde el presente? ?Que es mas importante en el: su uso inicial o su calidad de signo atribuida? Este es el caso de las Nakagin Capsule Tower, de Kisho Kurokawa (1972), devenidas en «monumento» contemporaneo a pesar de no haber sido concebidas con esa cualidad. En este texto se propone una reflexion sobre la capacidad de la arquitectura contemporanea de generar elementos significativos. Tambien es una reflexion sobre la relacion uso-representacion en los edificios convertidos en «monumentos» de la arquitectura del pasado reciente. ----------ABSTRACT---------- Architecture builds places where human life occurs; also, architecture builds memorable icons. Some buildings come to us from the past with an obvious significant; nevertheless we assign a meaning to others buildings. What happens when a meaning is attributed at a building by us? What is most important in this case: its initial use or meaning attributed by us? This is the case of Nakagin Capsule Tower, by Kisho Kurokawa (1972), a contemporary «monument» despite not being built with that quality. This paper thinks about the posibility to generate significant elements in the contemporary architecture. It is also a reflection about use and meaning in the «monuments» of the architecture from the recent past.
