Mediation by information professionals seems to play a decisive role in the appropriation of information.Hence, as an operative concept of Information Science (IS), mediation is the object of investigation.The objective of this work is to know and map IS 's interest in the subject and confirm its importance through a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the scientific production of the last ten years in Portugal and Brazil.A review of the literature and a case study of an analytical and exploratory nature were carried out, with data collected between 2007 and 2017.The results show a marked difference between countries, with Brazil leading the studies in the area, especially among 2011 and 2014.It is concluded that the concept is relevant in IS and that it is the focus of scientific meetings and academic journals.
