Resumo

This work seeks to raise concerns about the contemporary relations between the expressions of culture and city life. It may seem that this connection between city and culture presents itself as a vector for the celebration, consecration and peaceful organicity of human collectivities, in their yearning for the order of public life. However, the terms of this relationship are extremely tense, sometimes not revealing of all the forgetfulness and exclusions that permeate the daily life of the city. We will analyze as a case study A Roda de Samba da Pedra do Sal”, which takes place in the Bairro da Saude, Port Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Founded a decade ago, the “A Roda de Samba da Pedra do Sal” carries, in its baptism name, a testimony of the Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage and the urban history of the city. We observe the relation between the accumulation of capital in the urban space and the spatial planning policies before the cultural productions in the public space; and we analyze that these actions of control to the traditional and genuine cultural expressions explain the volume of rules responsible for the maintenance of a material and symbolically violent social order that permeate the contemporary hegemonic scenario of financial capital.
