ResumoAll my young life, I dreamed of escaping poverty. I can remember some days when my brothers and sisters and myself were so hungry all we could do was dream of food. Then there were times when we had enough to eat. Don't get me wrong, my childhood was a good one, but poverty is a bitch with a capital. ... A few months ago, I figured death had to be a better condition than life. The way I reasoned was that in death there is no pain, hunger, bills, rent to pay, no jobs to look for, no aggravation. . . . The strange thing is that I felt like I would be saving not only myself, but my family, also. I guess it was a phase. ... I wanted for us all to die and actually escape to safety.
