ResumoResearch Article| December 01 2018 Hamilton and History Musicals Elissa Harbert Elissa Harbert Elissa Harbert is an assistant professor at the DePauw University School of Music. She previously taught at Northwestern University and Macalester College. She earned her PhD in musicology from Northwestern, where she was awarded the Alvin H. Johnson AMS 50 Dissertation Fellowship. Her article “‘Ever to the Right’? The Political Life of 1776 in the Nixon Era” appeared in American Music, and she has contributed several chapters to edited collections on musical theater. She is currently working on a book about history musicals. Her other research interests include memory studies, early American music, the Vietnam War era, and historiography.
