Resumo

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a challenge for patients, their families and health professionals in obtaining good glycemic and metabolic control. For this study, we started with an university extension project carried out in the city of Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, developed in 2015. In this research, this group was mobilized again. Objective: was to know the reality of the affected public and to characterize elements related to resignification from the experience of the public in the Psychosocial Intervention Workshop. Method: a Psychosocial Intervention Workshop and semi-structured interviews were held. The data produced were worked from the content analysis. Results: As a result of research There is a need for support and education actions aimed at this public. Elements that influence the perception of diabetes, such as the social environment; the positioning of the family does not deal with the disease; and the type of public network support file. Conclution: participation in the workshop favored the sharing of technical information, as well as affective-emotional conceptions about coping with the disease. Thus, an OIP may have subsidized a new way of perceiving itself before the sickness, family and society.
