EnglishThe aim of this article is to analyze the safeguarding process of cultural heritage of the Terreiro de Sao Jorge Filho da Gomeia, carried out by the Cultural and Artistic Heritage Institute of Bahia (IPAC), in 2003. From this process, we sought to understand the relations of power, identity discourses and ways of promoting cultural rights from that cultural heritage. The analysis made possible to interpret the reasons for the process to have lasted fifteen years, reflecting the questions about the valuation of the asset. In addition, we can understand that not only the safeguarding process of cultural heritage was permeated by conflicts and contrasts, but also the interpretation after the institution of the patrimony, observing the forms of activation of the black identity, through projects such as the Community Museum and the Bankoma Carnival Block. portuguesO artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo de tombamento do Terreiro de Sao Jorge Filho da Gomeia, realizado pelo Instituto do Patrimonio Artistico e Cultural da Bahia (IPAC), em 2003. Com base nesse processo, buscou-se compreender as relacoes de poder, os discursos identitarios e as formas de promocao dos direitos culturais a partir desse patrimonio. A analise possibilitou interpretar as razoes para o processo ter durado quinze anos, refletindo sobre as questoes na perspectiva da valorizacao do bem. Alem disso, pode-se compreender que, nao apenas o processo de patrimonializacao foi permeado por conflitos e contrastes, mas tambem a interpretacao apos a instituicao do patrimonio, observando as formas de ativacao da identidade negra, por meio de projetos como Museu Comunitario e o Bloco Carnavalesco Bankoma.
