Nanoparticles: synthesis and applications

Resumo

On the face of impending global water resources, designing cost effective and water treatment technologies and materials thereof is highly important. In the era of nanoparticles and composites various nanoparticles are introduced for water treatment. Herewith, we are reporting a new nanocomposite, Fe3O4-TSPED-Tryptophan (FTT), for the adsorption of Congo Red (CR) dye and it's antibacterial properties. The FTT nanocomposite is prepared and characterized using FT-IR, XRD, TEM, FE-SEM, VSM, BET, TGA, and UV–Vis Spectroscopy techniques. The adsorption efficacy of the dye is assessed by varying various parameters such as pH, dye concentration, adsorbent dose and time. The adsorption isotherm is found to follow Langmuir isotherm model and the rate of adsorption well fitted to pseudo-second order kinetics. We further checked the antibacterial activity of the dye against gram negative (Escherichia coli) and gram positive (Bacillus subtilis) bacterial strain. FTT nanocomposite responds positively towards antibacterial activity. All together and from future aspect, the currently sysnthesized nanocomposite might be a good adsorbent for water remediation to trap CR and inhibit the bacterial activity.
