ResumoPernkopf’s atlas, a topographic atlas of human anatomy, was published between 1937 and 1960 by the fanatical Nazi doctor and rector (equivalent of chancellor or president) of the University of Vienna (1943–1945)—Dr Eduard Pernkopf. It has become an iconic example of immoral science and of the devastating effects on Austrian medicine during the period of 1938 to 1945. The circumstances leading to the anatomic drawings in the atlas were elucidated only after an initiative by the Yad Vashem Memorial Organization by a report of the Academic Senate of the University of Vienna, 1 Angetter D.C.
