Resumo

Considering the linguistic reality of our country and the importance of the study of linguistic variation for teaching-learning, this research aims to understand how linguistic variation is approached in the textbook of Portuguese Language, specifically the 6th grade.For the accomplishment of this bibliographical and documentary study, we selected as a source of analysis a volume of the Portuguese Portuguese work, 8ª edition reformulated and published in 2014, by William Roberto Cereja and Thereza Cochar Magalhães, destined for Elementary School.In order to do so, we sought to construct a theoretical framework capable of explaining the configuration of the language in its heterogeneous nature, as well as related to sociocultural aspects, which is why this work is based on the works of Bagno (1999, 2007), Travaglia (2009), Antunes (2007, 2009), besides the National Curricular Parameters (BRASIL, 1998), among others.We could verify, through the analysis, that the textbook here evaluated deals with linguistic variation, but the subject is treated superficially.In addition, it is perceived that the content involving linguistic variation are strictly grammatical analyzes, which does not contribute significantly to the language domain and does not extend the student's ability to understand and express in different communication situations.
