ResumoAmong the several environmental problems that affect the soil system, causing severe losses to agricultural production, there is the salinization process. Salinization is the accumulation of soluble salts in the agricultural layers of the soil, an environmental problem in several Brazilian semiarid environments. The objective of this study is to map the different degrees of susceptibility to soil salinization in the Quilombola de Cupira community in the municipality of Santa Maria da Boa Vista, Pernambuco. We provide a methodology that uses physical-natural and socio-environmental attributes cross-referenced from geoprocessing tools. Mappings of characteristics such as geology, relief, soils, potential evapotranspiration and land use (vegetation cover) were carried out to carry out this study. All procedures were performed using geoprocessing tools. More than half of the study area presents a medium susceptibility to salinization. Although the greatest susceptibilities occupy no >30% of the community's land, attention should be high since the most significant dangers are concentrated on areas of agricultural production.
