This paper analyzes the argumentative strategies deployed by the candidates Daniel Scioli and Mauricio Macri in the televised debate before the ballot for the office of President of the Argentine Republic. It is divided into two sections: the first one considers the ways in which the candidates combined in their arguments their political careers, an analysis of the current situation of the country and future prospects, with the purpose of favoring one’s own image and damaging that of the rival. The second section explores the strategies of the candidates to define their position with respect to the ruling party. The results of the research indicate different strategies with regard to how the future is represented, in the first place, and a struggle to demonstrate how close Daniel Scioli was to the government then in exercise.
