ResumoThe southern province of Oman, Dhofar is bounded by the Indian Ocean along the south, the Yemen border in the west and the great sandsea of the Rub al-Khali or Empty Quarter to the north (Fig. 15.1). The coastal region of Dhofar is dominated by the strike-slip faults along the Arabian plate margin. The transform faulted margin was initiated in Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous time when the African and Arabian plate separated from the India–Madagascar–Seychelles plate.
