ResumoThis paper aims to promote an enunciative study of samba de raiz as an experience of the surviving individual to Brazilian culture.Based on the enunciative theory of Émile Benveniste, we demarcate a reading itinerary that foresees the inseparability between language, culture and society.The research problem we aim to answer is this: How does samba de raiz constitute an enunciator who is a witness (AGAMBEN, 2008)?In the samba universe, characters such as Hilário Jovino Ferreira, Ze Espinguela, Caninha, Sinho, João da Baiana, Donga, Pixinguinha, Candeia, Ismael Silva, among many others stand as superstes, that is, they went through the samba consolidation in Brazil from the very beginning.Their testimonies carry a paradoxical
