Resumo

The production of yerba mate has four centuries of history, however the production labelled as organic goes back only to the mid-nineties. The aim for this paper is to analyse the transformations experienced by the socio-technical network of cultivating, processing and marketing of yerba mate from the province of Misiones (Argentina) in its passage to organic labelling since the mid-nineties. In order to achieve that goal, organic –and complementary– certifications are analysed, as well as their alternatives. The limitations that hinder the expansion of the organic production of yerba mate, are also pointed out. The theoretical perspective adopted is the Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and the corpus of analysis comprises a series of interviews conducted in the producing regions of the province of Misiones and Buenos Aires between 2014 and 2017, official statistics, and other secondary data.
