본 연구는 인터넷 신문에 나타난 간호사 이미지를 알아보고 이에 따른 간호사 이미지 제고 및 향상을 위해 시도되었다. 분석대상은 2012년 1월부터 2016년 12월까지 조선일보, 동아일보, 중앙일보의 인터넷 신문에 게재된 간호사 관련 기사 총 704건이다. 분석도구는 선행연구를 토대로 분석유목을 주제, 호의도, 보도비중, 기사대상, 기사 작성자 등의 5개 항목으로 구성하여 기사를 내용분석 하였다. 연구결과 간호사 관련 기사 총 704건 중 2012년이 163건(23.2%)으로 가장 많았으며, 2014년은 97건(13.8%)으로 가장 적었다. 기사의 주제는 ‘사회적 역할 확대’에 관한 기사가 183건(26.0%)건으로 가장 많았으며, ‘전문적인 모습’(62건(8.8%)과 ‘정치적 이슈 및 활동’17건(2.4%)은 상대적으로 적게 보도되었다. 기사의 호의도는 호의적인 기사가 312건(44.3%), 중립적인 기사 248건(35.2%), 비호의적인 기사 144건(20.5%)으로 기사의 80%이상이 중립이상의 방향으로 보도하였다. 남자 간호사에 대한 기사 보도는 25건(4.0%)으로 나타났으며, 기사 대상은 간호사가 주요인물인 경우 428건(60.8%), 주변인물인 경우 276건(39.2%)으로 나타났다. 기사 작성자는 기자가 646건(91.8%)으로 가장 많았으며, 간호사인 경우는 5건(0.7%)으로 가장 적었다. 본 연구를 통해 과거에 비해 간호사에 관한 기사보도와 간호사의 역할 확대에 대한 사회적 관심이 증가하였음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 간호사의 다양한 전문적인 모습이 제한되어 나타나고 있어 체계적이고 지속적인 간호사관련 기사 모니터링을 통해 간호사에 대한 정확한 모습이 나타나도록 해야 할 것이다.The current study aims to investigate the image of nurses portrayed in domestic Internet newspapers in order to improve the image of nurses. A total of 704 articles were collected for the analysis from the leading newspapers including Chosun Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, and Joongang Ilbo, published for the period, January 2112～December 2016. A content analysis was conducted with five items including subject, preference, the importance of reporting, article object, and the writer. The results shows that the year of 2012 was the highest in terms of the number of articles (163, 23.2%), while the year of in 2014 ranked the lowest (97, 13.8%). Regarding the subject of the articles, ‘social role expansion’ (183, 26.0%) was the highest, while ‘professional appearance’ (62, 8.8%) and ‘political issues and activities’ (17, 2.4%) were relatively less reported. Almost the half of the reports showed positive stance (312, 44.3%), while only one of five (144, 20.5%) took negative stance. A few articles (25, 4.0%) dealt with male nurses, and the majority of articles dealt the nurse as focal characters while others (276, 39.2%) described the nurses as marginal people. Most of articles were written by the journalists (91.8%), while nurses wrote the article seldomly (5, 0.7%). The findings can show that social interests in nurses and their works have been increased; however, it is limited to have various professional aspects of nursing in the newspaper media. It is suggested that consistent and systematic monitoring of media portrayals and further efforts to improve them are essential.
