Resumo

In this article, we provide an overview of the different incentives in place in Latin America and discuss the effectiveness of each given the international experience. We also discuss challenges associated with the deployment of public charging stations, list the number of public charging stations available in Latin America, and describe a simplified methodology developed in Costa Rica for defining the location of fast-charging stations. We conclude by presenting the results of an economic assessment of the technology to understand the reasons behind the current low number of EVs in Latin America and, more importantly, to highlight key actions needed from policy makers to promote a greater EV adoption.
