ResumoThe purpose of this article is to propose an analysis of the African religions in Brazil from the perspective of Roger Bastide. From the way in which the author had access to the world of candomblé, his vision about the origins of African religions in Brazil and the way they manifest and unfolded over time. I intend to refer to the way the "sacred African" is conceived and analyzed by the author. Therefore, suggesting a deconstruction of the "degrading" view of traditional African religions which refers to their "diabolization" as well as to a hostile environment of religious intolerance. In this way, methodologically I try to cross the writings of Bastide and Peixoto, Durkheim and Mauss, Mulago, among others, constituting a "bibliographic essay".
