ResumoThe cities also have their own identities, like people, with the structures that are formed inside them.Urban identity; affecting the image of the city; having its own characteristics; physical, cultural, socioeconomic, historical, and formal characteristics of the population.Today's cities are characterized by their symbolic references.This research focuses on the concepts of urban identity and symbolic landscape.In order to determine the effects of symbolic landscapes on urban identity, first 18 experts and then 236 users were surveyed in open spaces of Trabzon city.In the questionnaire, open spaces and items symbolizing the city were questioned.As a result, Hagia Sophia, Boztepe, Meydan Park, Ganita, Castle walls, Atatürk Mansion, Sümela Monastery and Uzungöl have emerged as symbolic places of the city and they have been influenced by urban identity.The cultural and social features of the city (horon, kemence, anchovy, Trabzonspor, etc.) have also gained importance as symbolic items.Based on these results, it was determined that local identity was given weight.It is also the result of studying that symbolic places influence urban identity more than items.
