Resumo

The investigation of the fossil hyracoids from the breccia deposits in the dolomite formations of the Transvaal System was undertaken to clarify the taxonomic positions of these forms and also to see if they could throw any light on the relative ages of the deposits. The sites concerned are Bolt's Farm (BF), Coopers (CO), Kromdraai (KA), Sterkfontein (ST), and Swartkrans (SK)-all about five miles to the north of Krugersdorp - Uitkomst, about ten miles north of Krugersdorp, Makapan (M), near Potgietersrust, and Taungs (T), Cape Province. The nomenclature of Thomas (1905) has been used for the reference points for the skull measurements, and his (1892) nomenclature for the eight stages in the development of the dentition has also been referred to in discussing incomplete tooth-rows.
