espanolOBJETIVOS: El sindrome de Herlyn-Werner- Wunderlich (HWW) es una anomalia congenita rara de dificil diagnostico producida por una alteracion del desarrollo embriologico comun del aparato reproductivo y urinario, destacando entre las anomalias urologicas la agenesia renal, doble sistema colector, duplicacion renal y rinon en herradura. Debido a su rareza y alteraciones urologicas asociadas, creemos que el urologo debe ser conocedor de dicho sindrome por sus implicaciones. MATERIAL Y METODOS: Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 18 anos con retencion aguda de orina recidivante asociada a sindrome de Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlinch. Describimos dicho sindrome tras realizar una busqueda bibliografica del mismo. RESULTADOS: En nuestro caso la clinica inicial fue exclusivamente urologica, debutando el cuadro por disfuncion vesical miccional con posterior retencion aguda de orina. El tratamiento quirurgico resolvio la complicacion inicial que presentaba la paciente. CONCLUSIONES: En este caso, al igual que en otros, los sintomas inespecificos y variables pueden retrasar el diagnostico, pudiendo acarrear complicaciones tardias como endometriosis, sindrome adherencial, colecciones e infertilidad. El tratamiento suprime el dolor, mejora la capacidad reproductiva y evita las complicaciones tardias. EnglishOBJECTIVES: Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome (HWW) is a rare congenital anomaly difficult to diagnose due to an alteration in the common embryological development of the reproductive and urinary tract, with renal agenesis, double collecting system, renal duplication and horseshoe kidney as urologic abnormalities. Due to its rarity and associated urological alterations, we believe that the urologist should be aware of this syndrome because of its implications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We present the case of an 18-year-old patient with acute retention of urine associated with Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlinch syndrome. We describe this syndrome after a bibliographic search. RESULTS: In our case, the initial clinical course was exclusively urological, with the presentation of voiding bladder dysfunction with subsequent acute retention of urine. Surgical treatment resolved the patient’s initial complication. CONCLUSIONS: In this case, as in others, nonspecific and variable symptoms may delay the diagnosis, which may lead to late complications such as endometriosis, adhesion syndrome, collections and infertility. Treatment suppresses pain, improves reproductive capacity and prevents late complications.
