ResumoAgro-industrial activity and urbanisation along river beds have a strong impact on the contamination of water bodies due to the discharge of sewage and industrial effluents. The Índios River, located in the city of Presidente Getúlio/SC, Brazil was assessed for pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, phosphorus, microbiological analysis (Escherichia coli), biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, oils and grease, and dissolved iron. The results were compared with the Resolution 357/2005 of the National Environmental Council. The results show that the following parameters and respective average values do not answer Resolution: pH (5.50), phosphorus (0.11-0.51 mg L -1 ), oils and greases (24.00-46.33mg L -1 ), dissolved iron (0.86-1.29 mg L -1 ) and Escherichia coli (432.07-2419.60MPN per 100 mL).
